There’s no denying that ‘Stranger Things’ is once again one of the biggest TV shows of the year and that the kids in it are definitely pretty cool and cute, but it’s another thing entirely for a grown woman to be sending weird sexual messages to them via her Instagram account.

Nevertheless, 27-year-old model Ali Michael thought that it was appropriate to post the following message on her Instagram story to 14-year-old Finn Wolfhard, who plays Mike on the show:
I mean that is kinda weird isn’t it? Imagine if a 27-year-old guy said that about a 14-year-old girl – everyone would literally be up in arms about it because it’s really gross and icky to sexualise young children like that, even if they are on the brink of adulthood.
Thankfully, most people did realise that although this might have been intended as a funny joke by Michael (pictured below) it was definitely inappropriate and she was called out about it, forcing her to make the following grovelling apology:

On October 30th, I posted an Instagram Story with a photo of Finn Wolfhard who plays ‘Mike’ in Stranger Things asking him to, ‘call me in for years’.
The general nature of my social media platforms is often one of humor, sarcasm and playful self-deprecation. I often quote, post and publicly respond to music videos, films, documentaries and television shows in a frank and candid manner.
The nature of my posts in response to television and media are always tongue-in-cheek and never intended to mislead or upset anyone.
In the past, I have asked fictitious characters of films to call me (namely Edward Scissorhands and Simba from the Lion King). In this instance, it has become clear to me that asking a character ‘to call in four years’ and inappropriately tagging the underage actor who plays the character (Mike) was upsetting, suggestive and concerning for my audience.
It was never my intention (nor has it ever been) to sexualise a minor in any way shape or form. To those I offended or misled, I apologise for a post made in haste and lacking in sensitivity, particularly considering the landscape of the present culture.
I mean as far as apologies go, that’s fairly well thought out and sincere. Hopefully Michael has learned her lesson and it will serve as a warning to anyone else who thinks it’s OK to make comments like that about young children. Heads up: it isn’t.
