Police in Connecticut have arrested 21-year-old Westen Soule after being tipped off about ‘possible drug dealing’ at his residence. Turns out the lad was running a whole damn psychedelic mushroom empire from his garage: dozens of dog-food-size bags of shrooms worth an estimated $8.5 million.
Which is pretty nuts, because if I saw this kid walking down the street, I’d never imagine he was some big time drug dealer raking in millions from psychedelics…
Selling a bit of weed from his car? Maybe. I mean, he looks like any other 21-year-old stoner. Moody, greasy, disheveled, and in desperate need of a haircut. You would never think he’d possess the entrepreneurial spirit to run a $8.5 MILLION mushroom grow operation from his (mum’s) garage.
Just look at how many mushrooms he managed to grow:
According to the Associated Press, after police entered his home with the warrant, Soule “admitted that the mushrooms were in fact psilocybin, which is a Schedule 1 controlled substance.” He also declined to a search of his home and insisted the mushrooms weren’t illegal (which they definitely are).
In the end, Soule has been charged with operating a drug factory and possession with intent to sell/distribute narcotics. What I want to know is what he did with all the money that he made? Where even is it? Are the police going to have to return with heavy machinery to dig up his property? Either way, he’s probably going to jail for a very long time, which is a shame because he’s obviously a hard worker that could contribute to the world if he put the same kind of energy into something that isn’t drug dealing. Guess we’ll never know.
