Birth Of Planets
This is HL Tau, a Sun-like star located approximately 450 light-years from Earth in the constellation Taurus. It’s a relatively new star, maybe just 1 million years old, compared to our Sun’s 4.5 billion years.
HL Tau is currently in the process of building planets. Those dark concentric rings are clouds of dust and debris that will one day coalesce to form planets.
