Ricky Gervais made the headlines this week, after a bereaved couple walked out of his recent live show because he cracked a ‘dead baby’ joke.

Ryan and Suzi Gourley walked out of his show in Belfast because of the joke, as it was the first night out together since the stillbirth of their son Eli.
Never one to shy away from controversy, Gervais has hit back on Twitter to defend himself and throw a few insults while he was at it. He initially stated that he sees, “offence as the collateral damage of free speech,” before sending out a stream of sarcastic tweets aimed at the couple:

Me: Why did the chicken cross the road?
*Kid starts crying
Me: What's wrong?
Kid: My chicken got run over yesterday.
Me: Sorry kid.

I wish I had a pound for every time I offended someone. Wait, I do.

Gervais, you straight up savage. He does have a point though. Humour is subjective, as is what people find offensive. If you’re going to find offence in jokes like that then a Ricky Gervais show is probably not a good idea.
The annoying thing about this all is that we’re not going to find out what the baby joke is unless we either go to one of his shows or wait for it to come out on Netflix:
Everyone wanting to know what the 'dead baby' joke is either needs to have a ticket for my sold out tour or wait for it to be on Netflix 🙂
