Oh how the might have fallen. Eddie the Eagle was once the much-loved underdog who won worldwide support when he came last in the 1988 Winter Olympics.

However, despite his global popularity, Michael ‘Eddie’ Edwards has revealed that a brutal divorce from his ex-wife, Samantha Morton, has taken away 85% of his wealth, including the £180,000 he earned for the film about his life. Sounds like a bad break-up.

Since being left completely broke, to say his life has gone downhill would be an understatement. In his own words:
I moved into the shed in my garden while developing my new house. I’ve lived off sandwiches ever since, as I don’t have a kitchen.
If you think about it too much, you get depressed, so I think, ‘I made it once, I made it twice, I can make it three times.’

Well at least he’s staying positive. I guess he’s used to it; this isn’t the first time Eddie has hit rock bottom. Despite his celebrity status, the athlete was declared bankrupt in 1992 as his trust fund was not properly managed.
This year the biopic of his life, which starred Hugh Jackman and was based on a memoir Eddie had written in 1988, earned him his money back. But it looks like his wife has taken this glory away from him and he has now reverted back to being broke again. What a bitch. He added:

My barrister argued that I signed the film rights 17 years ago and only met my wife about 10 years ago. But they said no. If they had tried to make the film this year, I’d have been fine – the divorce would have been sorted. Because we had children, and other factors, I ended up losing 85%. I’m wiped out.
So now he’s living in a shed, wifeless, lonely, with only egg sandwiches to keep him going. I say we set up a GoFundMe for Eddie. Seems like this guy can’t catch a break in life. Hopefully he bounces back soon.
Speaking of GoFundMe, check out the story of this woman who set up a fundraiser for herself after she spent all of her money on lottery tickets. What a moron.
