When Conor McGregor fought Floyd Mayweather in a boxing match, there was some vague interest in seeing a rematch in Conor McGregor’s natural habitat of the Octagon, but it was pretty much immediately discounted as everybody thought that Floyd Mayweather wouldn’t be dumb enough to do something where he would legitimately get brutalised.

Well, it turns out we were wrong as UFC President Dana White has confirmed that Floyd is in serious negotiations with the promotion to step into the Octagon. On ESPN on Wednesday, he said the following:
We’re talking to Floyd about doing a UFC deal. It’s real. He was talking about (boxing) Conor McGregor. Was that real? Have you heard Floyd talk about many things that aren’t real? He usually tips his hand when he’s in the media, and then that shit ends up happening.
We’re interested in doing something with Floyd. Everything is a realistic possibility. Mayweather vs. McGregor fucking happened. Anything is possible.

I mean he’s kind of got a point there by saying that last point – nobody ever thought the McGregor v Mayweather boxing match would happen and it did. But Floyd in the Octagon is another thing entirely and surely that can’t be real? Like any UFC fighter with any experience would take him down within seconds and pound the crap out of him surely? Conor McGregor would absolutely annihilate him.
Nevertheless, Joe Rogan confirmed the news as well – although it was via Dana White again:
Dana told me that Floyd wants to make a deal in the UFC. Like, legitimately. So I texted him, I go, ‘Is Floyd really talking about fighting MMA?’ He goes, ‘Yeah, he’s fucking crazy. I told him he’d get killed but he’s still talking about doing it.
Seems like everyone’s thinking that. I tell you what though – a whole bunch of people would pay to see Floyd Mayweather finally get the crap kicked out of him and that could be the selling point here. Be interesting to see how this one develops.
