You know how everyone wants to reduce plastic waste, but when you get given a paper straw it completely and utterly sucks and is actually nothing on a plastic straw so is opening up a whole conversation about it?

Well it looks like Italy – of all places – has come up with the perfect solution for this by starting to utilise straws made out of pasta. The news came courtesy of an Italian who posted the following on Reddit:
Here in Italy bars are starting to use pasta as straws to reduce plastic use. Our technology amazes the world another time. from r/europe
Oh Italy and their pasta. Whilst this may seem revolutionary to some people over here – including me – there’s actually already a pasta straw company operating in this country called Stroodles, who make straws out of wheat and water that are 100% biodegradable and vegan.
Here’s what their spokesperson told the Metro:
You can use Stroodles and sleep guilt-free, as being a food product, they decompose over night without any extra action, unlike paper straws, which take thirty to sixty days.
As with any straw it is not recommended to drink hot beverages with it, as it might cause probable injury like tongue burn. Stroodles are recommended for use with cold drinks, unless you want to make a noodle soup.
While we’re a very logical and effortless solution to the plastic problem, Stroodles is not just a straw company.
Our driving goal is to become a vehicle for change and we hope that Stroodles can act as an enabler, subtly inspiring people to question how they consume everyday items.
We hope these incremental changes will lead to a ripple effect and create a greater shift in behaviour, one Stroodle at a time.
I mean that’s just a great idea isn’t it? Literally no downside – provided the straws are tasteless and don’t affect your enjoyment of your beverage like they say – so hopefully it won’t be long until bars all over the country are adopting them as their number one straw choice. Make it happen.
